James F. Pomeroy II: How Velocity Makes “Kid Power” Happen

“Empowering kids through sports and education” are just words. Until one discovers how “Coach Jim” James F. Pomeroy combines state-of-the-art training methods, his business and communication savvy, and his unquenchable desire to help...to create a successful organizational model for others to emulate.

Baseball was his first passion. Until an arm injury resulting from the incorrect way he was taught to pitch caused him to make a detour - to the business world. That detour was beneficial to him, business- and finance-wise. And as it turned out, it was beneficial as well for the kids at Velocity. Velocity Sports & Education was the organization he founded and into which he poured his substantial resources - his time, talent, and finances.   http://www.velocitysprortsedu.com

Velocity happened because of that original baseball injury. Here, he aims to bring cutting-edge teaching and training techniques to players of all ages, techniques that will protect them from injury and make them stronger in sports as well as help them gain a great education and future.

Coach Jim educates players from age three to 25 and of all skills levels, using the Internet to deliver information. Velocity’s programming is based on experience, as well as research results from the American Journal of Sports Medicine: that as much as 49 percent of young pitchers get shoulder or elbow injuries. Coach Jim believes that, like his case, this is the result of a lack of understanding of the way the body works. And through Velocity, he aims to educate players, as well as parents and coaches on the correct injury-avoiding method of playing. His approach includes:

Communicating with mothers of the 12-and-under kids (the key decision makers), encouraging them to watch Velocity’s videos and downloads on better and safer playing techniques.
Using computer tools at the 18-and-under level to instruct players on Velocity’s proprietary speed-enhancing program for pitchers and position players
Implementing, for the 18-and-under kids, Velocity’s College Bound program, designed to provide them with self-help tools for successful college placement

Velocity Sports & Education combines both for-profit and not-for-profit centers to offer kids a safe and empowering platform to develop their sports skills and use sports as a launching pad for a college education and a better life.
